Neuromodulators

What is Botox?

Botox is a type of cosmetic injectable called a neuromodulator. It is well-known and widely used to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and restore a more youthful look. It is FDA-approved and considered safe and effective.

Botox is injected into facial muscles to prevent muscle contraction. This improves the appearance of frown lines, crow’s feet, and other wrinkles caused by facial expressions. Although the results from these treatments are temporary, patients can wait 3-6 months between treatments.

5 gold stars Botox and Xeomin

What are the target areas for Botox, Xeomin and Daxxify?

Neuromodulators can treat a wide variety of areas, but they are most commonly used to treat the following conditions:

  • Forehead lines
  • Crow’s feet
  • Glabella
  • Bunny lines
  • Lips (Specifically the lip-flip treatment)

In addition to cosmetic Botox, therapeutic Botox is used in other ways to treat conditions such as Axillary Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) or migraines. As with any procedure, it’s best to discuss your goals with your practitioner during your consultation.

What is recovery like and are there any side effects?

One of the reasons patients love cosmetic injections is because there is virtually no recovery period. Some patients experience minor bruising or swelling at the injection site, but this reaction is only temporary. As with any procedure, your practitioner will discuss all the possible risks and side effects before undergoing any treatments. We always want you to feel safe and comfortable during your appointment.

How many treatments should I get?

When considering facial injections, it’s common to wonder how many treatments will help you achieve your goals. The number of treatments and the frequency of those treatments will depend on your skincare goals, skin quality, the extent of aging, and your anatomy and budget.

During your consultation, your practitioner will discuss these factors and help you design an optimal treatment regimen. It’s important to remember that all cosmetic injectables are temporary solutions that require ongoing maintenance. For example, most patients schedule Botox and Xeomin injections every 3-4 months.

How do neuromodulators work?

The word neuromodulator sounds intimidating. But the concept is simple: muscle contractions occur in the face and neck as we talk, eat, and move. Over time, as those muscles continue to contract because of repeated motions, lines and wrinkles can begin to appear on the face. When a neuromodulator is injected (like Botox Xeomin or Daxxify), it temporarily prevents the muscle from contracting. As a result, the appearance of lines and wrinkles is reduced. This simple procedure takes only minutes to perform, and results are visible after several days, and the full effect is visible after two weeks. The results from these treatments last up to 3 months.

What are Xeomin and Daxxify?

Similar to Botox, Xeomin, and Daxxify are injectables containing botulinum toxin type A. Xeomin is used in both medical and cosmetic applications to temporarily relax targeted muscles. In cosmetic use, it helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles. While Daxxify and Botox Cosmetic are made from the same toxin, Daxxify differs by containing a unique protein that helps it adhere to nerve cells near the injection site for longer, allowing patients to benefit from its results for up to 9 months.

Am I a good candidate for Botox, Xeomin or Daxxify?

Good candidates for Botox, Xeomin or Daxxify have mild to moderate facial wrinkles around the eyes, forehead, neck, or mouth and desire a more youthful appearance. In addition, the best candidates are in good overall health and have reasonable expectations about what’s possible with these treatments. Botox, Xeomin and Daxxify are not recommended if you are currently pregnant or breastfeeding. The effects will typically last 3-4 months.

This will depend on the quality of the skin and the number of areas treated. We will discuss this and make recommendations to you during your consultation.

Neuromodulators (Botox, Xeomin) should not be used if you have an active infection at the site to be treated, or if you have a known allergy to an ingredient in the formulations. Patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not have the treatment. Patients with neuromuscular disorders such as ALS, myasthenia gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome also should not have the treatment. Aftercare is simple and we will discuss this with you during the consultation, and will give you an aftercare sheet.
