What Is Contour TRL and What Does It Treat

The Contour TRL (Tunable Resurfacing Laser) is a powerful erbium:YAG resurfacing platform engineered for high-precision removal of damaged skin. As one of the most aggressive ablative technologies available, Contour TRL allows providers to precisely control the depth of ablation, from superficial resurfacing to deep dermal renewal, resulting in significant improvement in wrinkles, scarring, photodamage, and overall skin quality.

Patients should expect meaningful downtime, but also exceptional, transformative results that are difficult to achieve with less intensive modalities. Contour TRL is designed for individuals seeking maximum correction, long-term improvement in skin structure, and outcomes that justify a more robust treatment and recovery process.

Contour TRL is effective for:

  • Deep and fine facial wrinkles, including lines around the mouth and eyes
  • Acne scars and surgical scars
  • Sun damage, age spots, pigmentation irregularities, and uneven tone
  • Rough or uneven texture
  • Mild skin laxity through collagen stimulation
  • Actinic (sun-related) damage and certain precancerous lesions (with provider approval)

Because the device is tunable, we can adjust the depth and intensity of treatment to create a customized resurfacing plan that fits your needs.

Frequently Asked Questions about TRL

1. What happens during a Contour TRL treatment?

The area is cleansed, eye protection is applied, and a guided laser system passes over the skin to precisely remove layers of tissue. The treatment usually lasts 45 to 60 minutes.

2. Is the treatment painful?

Comfort depends on the treatment depth. Topical anesthesia is often enough for lighter resurfacing. Deeper resurfacing may require local anesthesia.

3. What will I look and feel like right after the procedure?

Expect redness, swelling, warmth, and a sunburn-like feeling. Deeper treatments may involve oozing or weeping.

4. How long is the downtime?

Downtime ranges from several days for light resurfacing to two to four weeks for deep resurfacing.

5. When will I see results?

Initial improvement appears within 1 to 2 weeks. Collagen remodeling continues to enhance results for several months.

6. How long do the results last?

With consistent skincare and sun protection, results can last several years.

7. Is Contour TRL safe for every skin type?

Many skin types can be treated, but deeper resurfacing may not be ideal for all. A professional consultation is required to determine suitability.

8. What concerns does Contour TRL treat best?

Deep wrinkles, sun damage, pigmentation issues, scars, uneven texture, and general skin aging benefit most from this technology.

9. How many treatments will I need?

Many patients see significant improvement after one deep resurfacing session. Lighter resurfacing may be performed in a series.

10. What aftercare is required?

Aftercare includes gentle cleansing, barrier ointment or moisturizer, strict sun avoidance, daily sunscreen, and avoiding picking or scrubbing the skin.

Other Frequently Asked Questions

One of the major advantages of the NanolaserPeel is that it produces virtually no pain since it does not penetrate very deep into the skin. At its most basic settings, the majority of people can easily tolerate the treatment with no anesthetic numbing cream. At a deeper wavelength settings during a MicroLaserPeel treatment a topical numbing cream can be used based upon the patient sensitivity but most patients do not require this.

Generally the procedure takes 10-40 minutes depending upon the size of the treatment area and the number of passes given.

Beautiful results can be obtained from just a single treatment, however the number of treatments needed varies from person to person. Typically a series of treatments is done 2-8 weeks apart. Combine a laser peel with our other skin rejuvenating modalities like BBL, HALO or Virtue Microneedling RF for the best results!

Depending upon the depth of the laser peel, you may experience redness or swelling, but the treatment is very customizable to your desired needs and acceptable downtime.

The best candidates are generally healthy, non-smokers who are not pregnant or nursing. Schedule a free consultation with our clinician to see if this treatment is right for you.

Proper medical skin care products can be used to help accelerate the healing process and prolong the effects of the MicroLaserPeel or NanoLaserPeel. The skin can be somewhat sensitive to sun after the procedure, so it’s important to avoid direct sunlight and wear SPF 50+ until fully healed.
